Message from the Prime Time Trivia Challenge authors
We always look forward to the next issue of GAMES Magazine, hoping for another trivia challenge or a scavenger hunt or some other convoluted type of contest. My mentor, Sue, and I, just can’t seem to get enough of them. So, over the past few years, because our areas of expertise are in research, we have authored new games, puzzles and challenges just for the fun of it. Because of the positive internet responses posted on JM and Nichole’s site, we thought it might be fun to present one of these challenges to the general public. If there is a significant level of interest, we may even be able to make it a regular feature.
We want to thank JM and Nichole for the time, effort and expense they bear to host this site. There is no remuneration for anyone involved. This is a true labor of love.
Good Luck and Happy Puzzling,
Don Vance & Sue Bernstein

This looks like fun. I'm canceling all my other plans until I solve this. Thanks!

It sure is quite the contest! I love the end part where many of the numbers get eliminated down through the final set of complex instructions...very creative!

We would like to thank all of the astute puzzlers out there (you know who you are) for pointing out ambiguous or sometimes just plain wrong wording and helping us to properly edit our contest so it is solvable. Because of two primary factors, we are considering postponing the deadline for the solutions to be submitted. First, it may not be a completely reasonable deadline because of all of the changes which had to be subsequently modified.
Secondly, it has come to our attention that the Calculatrivia website has been mentioned in the latest edition of GAMES Magazine, which may mean that a LOT more people may be interested in submitting entries if the deadline is moved back.
We would not be adverse to supplying a second set of prizes for the late-comers, to be fair to the contestants who have been slaving away for so long, trying to meet the original deadline.
The decision to postpone or not to postpone, we will ultimately leave in the hands of the solvers. I will monitor this site and respect the wishes of the majority of postings.
We do have a new contest mostly finished, and we are being extra careful to have all of the bugs ironed out before it goes to posting.
So.... please leave feedback and let us know if you think we should allocate more time for the Prime Time Challenge. Your wishes are our commands.
don & Sue

Hello, Fellow Puzzlers,
First, we want to thank Nicole and JmSR, our hosts, and all of you who participated in the Prime Time Trivia Challenge contest. It was a journey and our joy to bring it to you.
Here are the winners, determined by random draw from the correct entries:
First Prize - Clive Dawson - “Mensa’s 100 Riddles & Conundrums”
Second Prize - Sean Forbes - “The Amazing 1000 Puzzle Challenge”
Third Prize - Jim from Minnesota - GAMES Magazine’s “Giant Book of Games”
We had such fun with this, our first collaboration, that we’ve decided to spring for a few extra prizes, which will be awarded to everyone who participated:
Bob Lodge
Martin Doublesin
Andrew Levine
Please e-mail us with your mailing address and we will forward the prizes forthwith.
We look forward to future contests – yours and ours - on this wonderful site.
Contest answers and explanations are being forwarded to Nicole and JmSR for posting.
Thanks again and happy puzzling,
Don and Sue

Don and Sue--The prize arrived and I am overwhelmed! You are too generous! It is very much appreciated, and by the way did not duplicate anything already in my library. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Believe me, the pleasure was all ours. I don't think we could have pulled this thing off without your significant input.

Ditto from here. The book looks like a lot of fun. I look forward to many hours of entertainment with my kids. Many thanks!

Don and Sue, Please allow me to echo the round of thanks for the great contest and prizes. I just received my "Giant Book of Games" today and look forward to cracking it open in the coming weeks. I had forgotten that I had wanted to buy it some time ago, and now, thanks to you, that's no longer necessary. Thank you again. Sean

Got mine today too. Thanks, Don & Sue.
Only two days left...
(I'm a bit surprised there hasn't been much discussion on the Wish You Were Where contest. Perhaps I did get the issue a little early after all.)

Is anybody else still waiting on their May issue?
Posted by: Pala | Apr 29, 2004 11:27:29 AM
I've been a subscriber for over ten years, and I haven't received mine yet.

I'm a long time subscriber as well. Yesterday I received my July issue! But I still haven't seen the May issue.

I received my subscription May issue about the normal time, a month or so ago. I just got the July issue a couple of days ago. It appears that a batch has gone astray, and you ought to contact GAMES to let them know. I'd get an old issue at hand with my label and numbers and call their 800 number listed in the masthead.
