100. Thankyou - Dido
Stats:
- #3 for 3 Weeks in 2001 (April - May)
- Best higher charting song: Survivor - Destiny's Child
- Worst higher charting song: All For You - Janet Jackson
- Top 100 #3 Hits 1955-2002 Rank: #77
Post-Lilith Fair women's pop more remembered for the Eminem song that sampled it. Thankyou is actually a stark and intimate reflection on mood and love that develops slowly at first before become more and more brazen in wearing its heart on its sleeve. Little wonder that Mr. Mathers used it to represent a stalker having trouble blurring lines of reality with fantasy. Simple direct songwriting is rewarded here though as Stan languished outside the top 40 and Dido rose up behind Janet and Destiny's Child to crown a top 3 of all women.
Coming up: #99 - "Lord knows when the cold wind blows it'll turn your head around"
I love this song (and it's on my iphone). Surprised it charted this high, as at this point in time I was getting music exclusively from my teenaged sons who turned their noses up at anything "popular."

It just now strikes me how weird this is as a vocal performance, the first verse sounds almost edited word by word. Nice chorus though.
All things considered, this is an okay beginning to the list and tomorrow sees a big upturn on the quality front.

@cliff: All that means is to me is that the day after I'll get gored for whatever that one is.
