Ixnay on the objay uffstay

Tinfoil + Racoon asks, What is it about "The Profession?"  Like any red-blooded librarian-in-waiting, I've got a few thoughts on the whole hair-pulling library culture/employment outlook thang. But they're not fit for public consumption, as my own situation is teetering on the brink of something. Not sure what yet.

If all else fails, maybe I'll force JM to move us to Essen. It won't be cheaper but at least it'll be fun.

Related note: how true are the rumors of a teacher shortage? Is it just more sound and fury rooted in baby boomer math, or is it for real?

Sigh. This is why public librarianship has never been on my radar.

Unfortunately, my last on-campus interview demonstrated pretty conclusively that academic libraries aren't necessarily a haven either.
