Songs with two top ten versions tend to be awful because they reflect pre-rock era songwriter-driven music. These ditties tend to be as interesting as kelp. “Seventeen” with its Fontane Sisters cover should have been awful but its not. Boyd’s version rocks replete with some interesting saxophone. It’s the kind of old rock tune you can really sway to. “Seventeen” is a celebration of a young girl who has reached the age mentioned with all the clichés in tact. This is a really swinging number (pun intended) that captures both the squeaky-clean and down-and-dirty 50s without slighting either one.
