Everybody sing along with Mitch! “The Yellow Rose of Texas” is all about the past. This sounds like a parody of what young people think old people listen to. If you haven’t heard this song, the chorus of men (sounding like they’re marching off to war or something) sing of a beautiful maiden. I heard she’s a prostitute, but that doesn’t seem to matter to them. Snare drum and fife songs are hard to belittle, but for some reason I feel Mitch Miller was the Kidz Bop Kidz of the fifties. And who needs six weeks at #1 of that?
You failed to mention that you never let this one get by without singing, "She's the sweetest little rosebud that Texas Avenue." Arg.
