Apparently my wife feels its necessary for me to mention that when I listen to “The Yellow Rose Of Texas,” I sing “She’s the sweetest little rosebud that Texas Avenue.” It’s true. Johnny Desmond’s version is the solo southerner’s version of the song (as opposed to the Wing and a Prayer Fife and Drum Corps of Mitch Miller’s version). Johnny’s is a little more like rock and roll but a lot less singable. So, I guess I’m less likely to visit Texas Avenue with Mr. Miller. Also interesting, banjo replaces snare drum and fife. This competing version hullabaloo is complicated.
