Perry Como is my absolute favorite of the pre-rock era singers. “Tina Marie” is so much fun you wonder why he alone couldn’t stave off folks like Elvis. (Of course, I love the SCTV bit about him.) Tina Marie is a girl that Perry “someday … [will] carry… off in [his] arms” and who wouldn’t want him? He’s backed by an overzealous male barbershop quartet (from Skokie) that really cares about what they’re singing and that’s cool. Perry proves that he cares about entertaining and singing his best no matter what. Put this one on when you’re feeling low.
