This piano-intensive (p)repackaging of “Mack the Knife” three years before it became an actual hit is listenable. The “trio” element is somewhat lost because the piano is so loud. The tempo is also slow compared to what we’re used to. And while the song is pretty and all, it does seem very strange that this would be a top especially against a competing version that peaked at #12 (by Richard Hayman… Chucklebutt anyone?). But the real issue here is: who leaves the house, let alone records a top ten single, with the name Dick Hyman.
