Like most people, I knew the big Elvis songs but not the minor Elvis number ones like this one. Of course, this genre of Elvis get-down song is now one of my favorites (including “Stuck on You”). In this one, Elvis is rockin’ and hammering home a point: he loves his girl too much and he sounds earnest but not sinister. This is also the song where I think the Jordanaires (Elvis’ backing vocalists) really shine. It was this kind of single-making that put Elvis into the driver’s seat for the first leg of the rock era.
