Pizza Hut is trying a new strategy for dealing with the Atkins diet: Low-carb pizza.
Why don't they do what the airlines have done?
WASHINGTON (AP) - Powerful Domino's and Pizza Hut lobbyists today have asked for a government bailout of their over 3,000 stores nationwide.
"The unprecedented attack of the Atkins diet here on our nation's soil has left us in ruins. If the government does not step in quickly, pizza service including table and delivery could cease to exist as early as 2011," said Pizza Hut spokesman Gerald LeBlume.
Sen. Jimmy Harnen (R.-Syn.) said today through a press release that he will sponsor SB no.04-11714 which provide over $34 billion to the pizza industry. Not everyone in the Senate is in favor, however. Sen. Tony DeFranco (D.-Def.) believes that if the free market cannot support the business, then subsidies aren't the answer. "Bill 11714 will only make the nation's pizza restaurants more dependent on the federal government for funds. Funds that should come from the interested consumer."
Similar legislation is being supported by the League of Associated Sandwich Shops led by Subway. Meanwhile, long standing subsidies to Ponderosa and Timber Lodge are being reconsidered. The president has not indicated whether or not he will support this legislation. "I like pizza," was the president's only official comment before his 10:15 walk in the park. Further details should be available in the coming weeks.
