12. Bye Bye Love - The Everly Brothers
Stats:
- #2 for 4 Weeks in 1957 (June - July)
- #1 Hits That Prevented it from Reaching #1: Love Letters in the Sand - Pat Boone, Let Me Be Your Teddy Bear - Elvis Presley
- Should it have beaten the #1? Bye Bye Boone
- #1 Movie in the Country: Bhowani Junction, The Catered Affair, Trapeze
- Top 100 #2 Hits 1955-2001 Rank: #26
Like all good Everly tunes, this one is simple and direct. Of course, it also led them onto to the national scene, so in many respects we owe this song for all the other classics they recorded. Fortunately, this one holds up really, really well. It establishes the forlorn bellow of the slighted teen that would grow to be the most popular of voices in the coming five years, yet it did so with rhythm and poise. Just a really good and inspired piece of sad pop.
Coming up: #11 - "Guess he's an Xbox and I'm just Atari"
Good pick--a bit higher than I'd put it, but deserving. I may not be commenting much longer as I think my head will explode on #11.

Not my favorite of theirs (that would be Cathy's clown) but definitely worth listing.
Unlike Ken I was fully expecting some more late 00's dismissive avoidant songs to be placed near the top so my head won't explode.
